In April we reported on the collapse of the plans to develop Tauro Beach as part of the Anfi empire. Following more than 30 years of talk, 20 years of hype, 16 years of planning procedures and 6 years of controversy in the hands of the recently bankrupted Hermanos Santana Cazorla SL, development plans were finally quashed with all planning permission removed. Since then more news has been published regarding the fallout from this proposed development.

Custodial sentence

According to El Diario, a Spanish daily newspaper, in a recent court case the head of coastal demarcation for the Canary Islands, José María Hernández de León has been found guilty and sentenced to a custodial term.

El Diario reported the following:

“The Second Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas has sentenced José María Hernández de León, former head of the Coasts of the Demarcation of the Canary Islands, to three years in prison and a 3,600 euro fine for a crime of falsification in an official document and to nine years of disqualification for a crime of prevarication, in relation to the regeneration of the Tauro beach, in the municipality of Mogán (Gran Canaria), and the exploitation of its services.

Thus, according to the ruling, it has been considered proven that the former head of the Canary Islands Coast authorised the start of the works on the beach of Tauro “knowing that he was not complying” with the Ministerial Order of the concession of Occupation of 11,200 square meters as a Terrestrial Maritime Public Domain, from October 1, 2015, destined to the regeneration of the Tauro beach and the exploitation of seasonal services.”

Game over

This news confirms that any hope of Anfi developing further in the Tauro Beach area is history. With all the other problems being experienced by Anfi, this is yet another setback in an already overly complicated scenario surrounding the group.

Many years ago it was common place in Spain to, shall we say, “Oil the wheels of industry “maybe this was the case regarding Tauro. It would seem those days are long gone.
