No cold calling area

A parish councillor has successfully introduced a “no cold-calling zone” within his small village in Derbyshire after stating that he would do anything to protect the residents.

Mr Powell reportedly received pleas from the local residents to take on the issue as they were being “plagued” by unwanted sales people.

And that is exactly what he did. Mr Powell took his concerns to Safer South Derbyshire Partnership in order to gain signs which he could attach to several of the lampposts warning potential cold callers to think again before knocking on any doors.

The signs state;

“Uninvited sales people are not welcome in this area”

Parish Councillor Powell commented to say;

“It was not a problem to do.

“Cold callers target closed areas and cul-de-sacs and there are a lot of senior citizens who are well into their 70s and 80s and who are vulnerable.

“I had to take it forward to see if there was anything which could be done”.

 Thanks to the initiative taken, people living in the area said they were hopeful that they could live their lives in peace.

 The TCA urges consumers to follow in the footsteps of this village and speak to your local Councillor’s in order to stop these unwanted sales people once and for all. We are all responsible for looking after each other and especially the elderly who are relentlessly targeted.

“Cold calling is defined as the solicitation of business from potential customers who have had no prior contact with the salesperson conducting the call, therefore making the call cold. Cold calling is used to attempt to convince potential customers to purchase either the salesperson’s product or service”.
