Global widespread news concerning the latest variant of the Covid virus, the so called Omicron variant, has lead Spain to change entry rules to the country. With effect from December 1st, all passengers arriving from the UK will have to show proof of being fully vaccinated (excluding children under the age of 12). In the past few months a negative PCR or lateral flow test was considered acceptable, this is now not the case. On top of the full vaccination requirement, Spain also requires completion of a health control form. This form may be completed online, the link is here. Alternatively, search the SPTH app on Google play or Apple, note, a digital copy of the vaccination certificate will need to be uploaded.

Added to the Spanish rule change, the UK will also demand self isolation and a PCR test on day two after return to the UK, self isolation must be maintained until a negative result is received, however both Scotland and Wales have lobbied the government and have also requested that fully vaccinated people must self-isolate and take a PCR test before the end of day 2 after they arrive and again on day 8 and remain in self isolation until, again a negative result is given.

Like in the past, the spread of this variant will cause governmental decisions to be dynamic based on available statistics and of course could literally change day on day, this is not good news for holidaymakers planning their Christmas breaks. Of course this is especially bad news for timeshare owners in Spain who have paid their maintenance fees and now may not fulfil the entry requirements. As EU countries often follow each other it is likely that timeshare owners in other countries may well be affected.

Naturally we will be watching developments closely and will report current news here.
