In an effort to encourage holidaymakers to make return trips to Malta, the Maltese authorities have introduced a brand new legislation targeting the timeshare companies that have flooded the island and are currently threatening the Maltese tourist industry.

After a flurry of complaints from disgruntled previous holidaymakers, Malta has installed a new stance against Timeshare street touts from driving away possible repeat tourists with their pushy tactics. The legislation has been put in place by the Malta Tourist Authority who are on a crackdown to combat the islands issue with sustained tourism.

The Malta Tourist Authority has begun the battle of tightening up the laws and legislation’s towards Timeshare companies that allow their street representatives to harass holidaying family’s and couples into attending timeshare presentations. If these touts fail to succeed to convince the tourist while following them half way down the street, this then often turns to verbal abuse being thrown at the innocent holidaymaker.

With vacationers tiring of the of the constant intrusion on their precious holiday time with incentives to attend a presentation for something they really do not want to buy anyway, this has led to the increase of complaints and downturn in tourism.

To attempt to safeguard the future of tourism in Malta, the MTA are enforcing a 3,000€ fine for EACH street tout that EACH timeshare company has out on the street attempting to lure unsuspecting holidaymakers.

Using these funds the Malta Tourist Authority is arranging to outsource security patrols to regulate the timeshare touts and protect tourists from rogue companies.

Hopefully this landmark legislation will catch on and become common practice amongst other timeshare hotspots around the world.
