At a time when many timeshare owners are disgruntled with the fact that they have had to pay their full maintenance fees for 2020 despite having lost their holidays due to the pandemic and other associated reasons, there is more bad news for some.

2021 maintenance fee invoices are currently being sent with the potential scenario of a repeat of the same holiday losses, well at least during the first quarter of 2021.

Most owners would expect the 2021 bill to be greater than their last charge, given that they only ever seem to rise, and as if to prove that point, here are the proposed increased rates for Disney Vacation Club.

Resort% Increase
Animal Kingdom Villas5.27%
Aulani0.27%
Aulani (Subsidized)0.27%
Bay Lake Tower4.91%
Beach Club Villas5.29%
BoardWalk Villas6.07%
Boulder Ridge4.18%
Copper Creek Villas1.92%
Grand Californian5.97%
Grand Floridian3.81%
Hilton Head9.58%
Old Key West6.65%
Polynesian3.87%
Riviera0.90%
Saratoga Springs5.11%
Vero Beach (Before 1/1/96)10.67%
Vero Beach (On or After 1/1/96)10.91%

Ranging from 0.27% to a massive 10.91% one has to ask where the business logic is?

Quite obviously the resorts in general, and on this occasion specifically Disney Vacation Club, know that owners are tied into long term contracts with its inherent liability to pay an annual maintenance come flood, fire or influenza and with contractually bound clients, they can get away with it.

Is this anything less than we expected?

The answer is no, though sharp practise is a phrase that comes to mind. We suppose the only saving grace is at least Disney have published theirmaintenance percentage increases, so hopefully it will be no real surprise to their owners when their bills arrive. Undoubtedly such underhand behaviour will likely still leave a bad taste in the mouth of most in such unprecedented times, especially to owners at Vero Beach who take the biggest hit.
