Holiday Club Canarias Managing Director, Calvin Lucock, was appointed Chairman of the Resort Development Organisation (RDO) In October of 2012.

Was this appointment another blatant slap in the face for the timesharing owner?

Lucock was introduced as “a person who had held many senior positions across the timeshare industry” keeping his introduction very non-specific as to what positions or even what companies these were.

They could have opened his induction into his new role as Chairman of the (RDO) with the statement “we would like to welcome our new Chairman and former Sales Director at Anfi Sales.”

The marketing company for one of the most prestigious timeshare groups in Europe. Based in Gran Canaria.

However during his time as Sales Director there had been increasing consumer complaints about their selling methods. Including:

  • Selling accommodation which was never constructed.
  • Substantial misrepresentation
  • Breaches of the timeshare law
  • Very aggressive selling tactics

Leaving a nasty taste in the mouths of consumers and spoiling the reputation of a previously highly regarded organisation.

To the point that during his tenure, Anfi had to officially close the resale department. Instructions given by Calvin Lucock.

Who, given all of the above reasons, was sacked alongside many collages from a resort group that had once been seen as an aspirational company even within the timeshare industry.

But NO.  Instead the decision was to go with “a person who had held many senior positions across the timeshare industry”.

Calvin Lucock´s statement, given what we already know about him, raised an eyebrow, “I very much look forward to assuming this new role as Chairman of RDO and to continue building a transparent platform where our strategy is clear to everyone involved.

Not content with being anything near transparent he continued…

“I also want to further strengthen RDO as a credible trade organisation that gives the industry and consumer a reference point of trust.”

Lucock added: “The timeshare business is more than a business – it is a way of life.”

The screams from around the world can be heard as ONE: “timeshare has ruined our lives” (you have assisted in ruining our lives).

Resort Development Organisation Chief Executive, Paul Gardner Bougaard said: “It is always interesting to have someone coming in with new ideas and taking a fresh look at the organisation.”

Calvin has been in the industry for over 10 years and it’s not as if he’s been away to come back all invigorated with fresh ideas or been promoted to new opportunities.  After being SACKED by Anfi group he went straight to Holiday Club Canarias, where he is still acting Managing Director, as well as juggling being Chairman for the RDO.  Two highly responsible and demanding positions!

For someone who couldn’t do one job well for Anfi he seems “good enough” to multi-task and muddle through two jobs now?
