Andalucía apparently is the place to be. Just think, how nice would it be to sit on the docks with the glorious rays of the sun ionising every portion of exposed skin, sounds lovely doesn’t it?

The southern coast of Spain, has a lot to offer for a tourists, from roaming the grand castles, to having a once in a life time opportunity when swimming with dolphins, but watch out for the predators, yikes!

Statistics shows that Andalucía has claimed third position in Spain for the income from international tourists for the duration of the six month period of the year. It has also been reported that tourists spent €4.4 billion in Andalucía. My question is, how does it run so smoothly and who is paying the price?

Behind the photo-shopped pictures of villa’s, and the boasting of clean white sand lies a shady secret about the economy and its impact on the labouring population.

The luxurious holiday’s tourist’s book is merely just a cover to hide the true colours of the Andalucían economic policies and then more (such as unemployment, and misery). Deep within this sunny region of Spain lies poverty and an unfortunate sense of growing depression, as well as desperation.

Studies show that the five worst unemployment black spots are all situated in Spain, and the darkest one of all lies deep within the shadows of sunny Andalucía, where one in three people are out of work. Another question springs to mind is who is actually employed to offer their services to the tourists then?

In 2013 a Catholic Charity spent €2.3 billion just on food for those families who were vulnerable and desperately in need of essentials. In Andalucía alone, unemployment is rising as time progresses, but what is the main cause for this dramatic event? I don’t believe the answer we are all looking for will come to light any time soon.

Let’s not fail to mention that young teenagers felt the need to leave their education to find some work (construction mainly) because their families urgently needed the money. After they were no longer required for the job they were cast aside and a vivid memory of being an earner would slowly but surely fade away. Now they have nothing; they have no job to go to, and no education to act as a fall-back (even though the more privileged see education as a priority).

So why, is it that the tourists have gained enough popularity to be mentioned in the news? Yet the civilians who are suffering fail to be mentioned! Reporters have had very little say in this subject which is morally concerning. Indeed should alarm bells be rung? Why it hasn’t been reported is a matter which should be resolved, as at present it’s truly and honestly unacceptable.

It was reported that a victim who was and still may be suffering, came to light and said “no one has any money, so they don’t go out and they don’t consume, so the service industries suffers.” The victims should not lose hope, and as a person who is loyal to those who need assistance, this concerning issue should be recognised by many and most.

We travel and holiday in Spain for the sun and the culture! Therefore Spain should employee the people who created that culture, live the culture and outwardly express the culture which we want to experience.
