In my quest for stories we found this on “facebook”. A story about the results and actions of one such MRL resort. It is what the TCA wants for consumers and is evidence our proposal will work for consumers.

The man who wrote on “facebook” is encouraged to make himself known to us and we would love him to come on our road show and explain how benefits will come from a consumer controlled committee.

I purchased an August week at Loch Rannoch in 2001 when the resort was still managed by BIRL Soon after that BIRL sold their time share business to MRL.

Your quite right about the management contract at Loch Rannoch when it came up for renewal the owners and owners committee refused to reappoint MRL because of their disappointing management of the resort at Loch Rannoch.

Almost 76% of the owners voted against reappointing them. The resort at Loch Rannoch is now run by the owners committee themselves and as a result maintenance fees are lower than Elmerscourt and Villacana because we save on the 15% management fee which MRL add to the maintenance costs at all their other resorts.

The owners committee appoints independent accountants to do the accounts and owners get a copy of the budget statements and cost build-up for each year.

We the owners get to have a say where money should be spent. The owners control their own destiny at this resort.

Since the owners committee started to run the resort it has gone from to strength to strength the club now have assets and a healthy cash reserve in the bank.

Money is being spent on refurbishing the apartments which was not being spent before under MRL. I believe it is a resort that owners are proud of.

It has not always been plain sailing as it took several years of court action between the owners and owners committee and MRL before the matter was finally settled in 2008.

MRL refused to allow us to use their hotel and restaurant facilities and the leisure facilities. They will only allow you to use some of their facilities now for a fee.

This would not be the same situation at Villacana on the southern section because MRL do not own the leisure facilities i.e. the swimming pools and restaurants.

Could we do a Loch Rannoch at other resorts it would be difficult as all management contracts were renewed in 2006 and last for 21 years and would not be up for renewal until 2027.

MRL did that to ensure that there would not be any more Loch Rannoch’s.
