We have reported on the widower, Julieta Corredor, and her holiday home in the state of Florida in one of Westgates’ timeshare resorts many times over the past two years.  To follow the full story, please see all of the threads in this link.  We reported in November last year that Julieta had won her long battle against Westgate, however, at this time we were not privy to any further information due to a confidentiality clause in their agreement.

Now that the case has been completed and the sale of the condo has gone through, the calculations have been made through tax stamps levied on public property documents, and these figures have now been confirmed.  Julieta has won the case, receiving a whopping $1.5m.  This figure is ten times what she paid for the holiday home with her late husband and also more than ten times the figure that she was offered after the construction began on the first tower.

Mrs Corredors’ property was ‘forgotten’ when Westgate started to demolish the old timeshare resort in Florida, and Julieta was then offered a measly sum that she was not interested in accepting, as Westgates contractors had ‘accidentally’ damaged her property, whilst it was still hers.  Even though Westgate had acquired the rest of the Timeshare properties that were on the land they missed Julietas.  Which now, they have learned was a very expensive mistake.

Westgate later proposed many offers to the widower, who in turn declined every offer.  She had claimed that it was not about the money that was on offer, but simply the principal that she was fighting for.  Westgate had partially destroyed her holiday home (which hadn’t been used for many years), deeming it inhabitable, and the widower simply wanted what she thought was correct.

There had been no agreement of purchase when the building was damaged, and Westgate had completed the first tower (towering over Julieta’s home) before there was any agreement made.  We are sure that Julieta and her family are very happy with the final result, and will be able to enjoy many more holidays with the new fortune they have come into.

Whereas Westgate’s troubles continued, as even once the sale of the Corredors property had been finalised, there were still issues with the planning on the second tower and Orange county had to make further approvals.
