Last year the TCA wrote several stories about the widower, Julieta Corredor, 82 years of age, and her battle against Westgate resorts and their new tower resort to be built in Orlando Florida.  The widower and her family had not given up their timeshare resort that sits in the same grounds where Westgate started to develop a new modern timeshare complex in Orlando, Florida.

This was an oversight by Westgate, which has proved to be a big problem for them in the development of their new complex.  The site was an old timeshare resort of theirs where most of the residents had either made an agreement with Westgate for them to buyout their old property or swap for a similar property either in the same or different location.  However, there was an oversight and Julieta Corredor’s property was missed from this proposal.

So, when work started on the grounds, and Ms Corredor’s property was damaged by the builders, the Corredors started their battle with Westgate, demanding $2m in compensation.  Westgate did not bow down to this demand, and the battle continued.  We reported last October that Julieta had actually lost her battle, and Westgate were to finally be allowed to build.  However, nearly a year on, there are still issues.  Westgate are in need of Julieta’s signature to continue with the build and to demolish her existing building, but this is a signature that she is not willing to give.

The timeshare giants are now suing Orange County as they are not letting Westgate proceed with the second part of the new resort and will not grant the building permit for this part, or the occupancy permit for the first part until the demolition permit has been signed for the property of Julieta Corredor.  They also have to repair the damage that was accidentally done to the property before they can get the permit to demolish it.  This oversight and continuing battle is costing Westgate tens and thousands of dollars daily and does not look like it is being resolved very quickly.

The Corredors have refused every offer that Westgate has laid down, and are now saying it is simply a matter of principle that they are being bullied and are not prepared to budge.  The TCA will keep you informed with the follow ups to this interesting twist in events, as the first phase of the resort lies empty and ready for occupants, but is not allowed any until the widower signs, or Orange County overrules the decision.
